Trainee-Led Research In-Progress Meetings
The purpose of trainee led RiPs is for Center members to gain a basic understanding of trainee members’ current research, for trainees to share ‘blue-sky ideas’ for future research directions, and/or to present a problem within the research that could benefit from multiple viewpoints. In addition, the trainees will gain experience in how to present research in-progress to a diverse audience and engage the audience in discussion about their work.
Content & Context
- Trainees should pitch their presentation to an “entry undergraduate ”
- The in-progress work that is presented may be hypothesis-driven research or methods development.
Atmosphere
- Presenter ← → Audience OR Presenter → Audience [In these meetings, the presenter will engage in discussion/dialogue with the audience and/or the presenter will solicit advice and feedback about their research from the audience.]
- Audience members are strongly encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussion at a level that allows all Center members to understand and participate.
Format
- Chalk-talks and slide presentations are welcome.
Faculty-Led Research In-Progress Meetings
- The purpose of faculty-led RiPs is for Center members to gain a basic understanding of faculty members’ current research, for trainees to share blue-sky ideas of the next directions of their research, and/or to present a problem within the research that could benefit from multiple viewpoints.
- In addition, the faculty will demonstrate for trainees how to present research in-progress to a diverse audience and engage the audience in discussion about their work.
Content & Context
- Faculty should pitch their presentation to an “entry undergraduate level.”
- The in-progress work that is presented may be hypothesis-driven research or methods development.
- The work presented should relate to Center Projects, but can be exploratory work that the presenter wants/thinks will connect to a Center Project in the future.

- Presenter → Audience OR Presenter ← Audience [In these meetings, the presenter will engage in discussion/dialogue with the audience and/or the presenter will solicit advice and feedback about their research from the audience.]
- Audience members are strongly encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussion at a level that allows all Center members to understand and participate.
Format
- Chalk-talk and slide presentations welcome (i.e. Preference is to curate the selection of slides and media to facilitate communication).
